What moves the price

Five things. Everything else is the starting price.

  1. SizeDucted: 1.5, 2, 2.5 or 3 tons. Ductless: 1 to 5 indoor units on one outdoor unit. Final size comes from a load calculation at the site visit, not from the old furnace label.
  2. Ducted or ductlessDucted: one air handler on the ducts you have. Ductless: an indoor unit per room, no ducts. One zone is the cheapest heat pump there is; each added zone adds a unit and a line set.
  3. TierEconomy: ACiQ ducted, Gree ductless, 1-year workmanship warranty. Standard: Bryant, Fujitsu, 2 years. Premium: Mitsubishi Electric, 3 years. Your quote names the model and its certified rating.
  4. ElectricalA circuit up to 30 ft is included; longer runs are per foot, more along exterior walls than through an attic. Panel near capacity: load management first ($500 WestLight bonus), an upgrade only if needed ($1,000 bonus, partner electrician).
  5. Line set and extras50 ft of line and 20 ft of cover included (ductless: 100 ft total for 2 or 3 units, 15 ft of cover per unit). Longer runs, condensate pumps, duct repairs and missing code items are quoted separately.

Rebates come off the top

WestLight pays us the $1,500, so every calculator price already has it out. On the same project: $1,000 for CARE or FERA customers, $500 for load management, $1,000 for a panel upgrade, $1,500 from the City of Menlo Park. A heat pump water heater adds its own $3,500.

$0 upfront

The WestLight 0% loan covers up to $10,000 over 2 to 5 years, no credit check, repaid on your PG&E bill. The $11,500 Economy ducted system: $0 at install, then $166.67/mo for 60 months. Above the loan cap, the difference is paid at install.

Questions

What size heat pump do I need?

Most San Mateo County homes replacing a gas furnace land at 1.5 to 3 tons. We size by load calculation at the free visit; oversized units cost more and short-cycle.

Can I keep my ducts?

Usually. Leaky or undersized ducts are repaired at a separate price, including what the HERS duct test requires.

Will I need an electrical panel upgrade?

Often not. Load management first; an upgrade only if that won’t work, quoted by our partner electrician with the $1,000 WestLight bonus.

Is the price different in Daly City, San Mateo or Redwood City?

No. Same installed price from San Francisco to Mountain View. The rebate and loan apply only in San Mateo County; Menlo Park adds its own $1,500.

Why is ductless cheaper than ducted?

One outdoor unit, one indoor unit, no ducts: $5,200. It serves one area. A ducted system replaces the furnace and serves every room.

Does the price change after the site visit?

Only if the home differs from what you entered. If it matches, the locked price stays.
